Perseus is a constellation symbolizing the legendary Greek hero known for his quest to defeat Medusa, the Gorgon. On his journey home, Perseus also saved Andromeda from a sea monster’s grasp. In the night sky, he is portrayed holding Medusa’s head, marked by Algol, a well-known variable star. Every August, the Perseid meteor shower seems to originate from this constellation.
