Depicting a hunter with accompanying dogs (represented by Canis Major and Canis Minor), the constellation finds its roots in Greek mythology, where Orion is portrayed as the son of Poseidon, the sea god. Myth has it that he met his demise from the sting of a scorpion. One notable aspect of this constellation is Orion’s belt, comprising three second-magnitude stars.
