Delphinus is connected to two Greek legends. In one, it represents the dolphin sent by Poseidon to fetch Amphitrite as his bride. In another, it is the dolphin that saved the poet Arion from ship robbers. Notably, its brightest stars, Sualocin and Rotanev, form the reverse spelling of Nicolaus Venator, the Latinized name of Niccolo Cacciatore, an astronomer at Palermo Observatory, Italy, who named the stars after himself in the early 19th century.
