The constellation symbolizes the lyre played by Orpheus, the renowned musician of Greek mythology. It includes Vega, the fifth-brightest star in the sky, which marks one corner of the prominent Summer Triangle, alongside Deneb in Cygnus and Altair in Aquila. Each year around April 21-22, the Lyrid meteors originate from a location near Vega.
